Dr. Xu is the Chair Professor (2026-)/ Full Professor (2018-)/ Distinguished Visiting Professor (2016-2025) in Rajamangala University of Technology Phra Nakhon-Thailand, Visiting Professor in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Visiting Assistant Scientist in University of Maryland, Professor in South China University of Technology, Distinguished Adjunct Professor in Shantou Medical University, Adjunct Professor in National Institute of Fundamental studies-Sri Lanka. Dr. Xu is among the Best Microbiology Scientists (2023-), Top 2% Scientists (2019-), Top 100,000 Scientists Worldwide (2021); and has been previously awarded Top 100 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations in China (2014), Guangdong Province Special Support Program for High-level Talents (2017), Guangzhou Pearl River Science and Technology Nova (2017). Dr. Xu has been the Principal Investigator (PI) of > 40 grants (5 national and > 20 provincial level), with the total funding > 15,000,000 Yuan (RMB). As first or correspondence authors, Dr. Xu has published > 120 SCI papers, with the total impact factor (IF) > 500, H-index = 52, I-10 Index = 114 and citation > 8,200. Dr. Xu has published > 10 book chapters. Dr. Xu has applied for >30 patents in China, with 8 granted patents (in China) and 4 PCT patents. Dr. Xu has been awarded the “Outstanding investigator award in biofilms” (2021) by <Antibiotics>, Outstanding Contribution Award of Guangdong High-level Talent Achievement Transformation Platform (2020, 2021), Bronze Award of the National Postdoctoral Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (2021), Bronze Award in “Internet+” Competition (2020, 2021) and Gold Award in iGEM (2017). The major research field of Dr. Xu is microbial biofilms, and he has been engaged in regulation in biofilm formation, polymicrobial interaction and quorum sensing, viable but non-culturable (VBNC) and persisters, antimicrobial resistance, microbial diagnostics and detection, etc. Dr. Xu is the co-founder and co-president of a leading international conference series in Asia-Pacific, the Asia-Pacific Biofilms (http://www.asiapacificbiofilms.org) and has hosted 5 conferences (China Biofilm 2017, China Biofilms 2019, Asia-Pacific Biofilms 2021, Asia-Pacific Biofilms 2022 and Asia-Pacific Biofilms 2024). Dr. Xu is also the co-founder and trustee of the Mark Shirtliff Biofilm Foundation (https://markshirtliffbiofilmfoundation.org/).
